In the UK the divan bed is, by far, the most popular of the many types of bed available. They are very adaptable and can be used in almost any situation. They are ideal for small box bedrooms where the small single size (2ft 6in wide) version will fit perfectly right up to the most luxurious of bedrooms where a super king size (6ft wide) will be the centrepiece.

They also have one very big advantage over other types of beds, in that there is always the option for extra storage space built into the divan base. This takes the form a slidestore cupboard, drawers both large and small as well as the increasingly popular end or side lift ottomans.

Divan bases are made from a wooden box construction and covered in a wide choice of matching or complementary fabrics. The top of the base is normally solid, called a platform top, or sprung for extra comfort.

Divan bases have fixings to allow a headboard to be attached to complete the overall look and are normally sold with either castors or glides.
